midweek mystery comes to us from Kelly. Kelly's story is called Civil War Spirits. Kelly says,

Hi, Nick, I live in a rural area in South Carolina. I have lived in this area my entire life.

I am writing to tell you an experience that may involve Civil War spirits on our property.

I come from a farming family.

We have a lot of land that has been passed down for at least four generations.

When my husband and I decided to marry,

we cleared some wooded area on my family's property for our home. To give some context for our location, we are surrounded by hayfields and forests.

It is more than a quarter mile to our nearest neighbor and at least a 15-minute drive to the

nearest store. Since we have been in our home, we have experienced a few unexplained events.

For a period of several months, I would be startled awake several times a week

by a loud bang on our bedroom window, which was right next to the bed.

It would always occur between 5 and 6 o'clock in the morning.

When the banging woke me up, I would get up and look out the window,

then go to the back door and check the backyard, but there was never anything there.

I am a bit of a light sleeper, so it always woke me up.

My husband, on the other hand, sleeps very deeply, and he never heard it, so I thought it might be my imagination, or part of a recurring dream.

However, I've never had recurring dreams, and the fact that this happened at the same time each morning, seemed strange.

After a couple of months, the banging on the window ceased.

Several months later, I came home from work and went to my bedroom to change out of my work

clothes.
