Hello everyone, and thank you once again for listening to the saga of World War II.

0:04.5

This episode is another appendix in which I cover topics that don't necessarily flow through the normal episode structure.

0:10.4

This particular appendix is an interview with author and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Eric Liktblow

0:15.6

about his book, Return to the Reich, a Holocaust refugee's secret mission to defeat the Nazis.

0:21.6

Return to the Reich is a thrilling read that oftentimes feel more like a Tom Clancy novel than

0:26.0

an historical narrative.

0:27.9

It documents the mission undertaken by one Freddie Meyer, a Jewish-German refugee to the United

0:32.8

States who enlisted in the army to fight the Nazis.

One reason I like doing these episodes is because I feel

0:38.6

1:02.8

before. This is one of them. The war was so large and so all-encompassing that there were just

1:08.6

so many unique experiences across the globe.

1:12.5

I'd also like to apologize ahead of time for some audio artifacts in the recording.

1:17.2

There are some places where the sound quality dropped off for whatever reason,

1:20.7

but I did my best to clean it up and cut it out.

1:23.2

However, in some places, that would have meant removing important parts of the conversation,

1:27.0

so I had to leave it in and just tried to work around it.

1:30.5

I also hope no one minds that this episode is along, even by appendix standards.
