Bob what is Apofis and why are we going there?

Apofis is a potentially dangerous asteroid that is going to fly past the Earth only

20,000 miles away on April 13, 2029.

And that flyby will determine future potential impacts.

Right now we don't think it's going to hit the earth

for at least 200 more years,

but the flyby will help us pinpoint those numbers more precisely.

Therefore, it's good to study this asteroid.

We already have one spacecraft on the way to see it

during that flyby and that's Osiris Rex after doing Benu it gave us its samples and

they repurpose the mission to go to Pothis.

Well the European Space Agency now has awarded a contract to the company OHB

It's worth 63 million euros.

It's a preliminary contract to begin work on something called

Ramsey.

This will be a mission that would rendezvous with a porpoise

the same time when it does this fly by over the earth.
