Hey, deserving listeners. This is chapter 14, the final chapter in my apology deep dive

0:06.9

in which I finish answering your questions that you emailed in. So let's get to it. Omar

0:12.7

commented on Patreon and said, I would like to apologize and ask for your forgiveness,

0:19.3

Dr. Kirk Honda, for being a geography pedant on YouTube comments on your first Ella and Johnny

0:26.6

reaction video. I like to show off my limited knowledge of geography and history because I

0:32.7

derive some self worth from that. Also, I was in a headspace where I was learning a lot about

0:38.8

Malaysia to prepare to visit family and I thought the comment would get buried and I didn't think

0:45.2

it would attract any attention. I'm sorry if that came off as serious criticism. It wasn't

0:51.5

end of email or end of comment. Yeah, I remember that. I believe Omar you were pointing out that I

1:01.7

hadn't mentioned Malaysia. I think I was listing off a bunch of Asian countries and I was saying,

1:11.0

you know, I believe I was commenting on how people will say, well, you know, that person is Asian

1:19.8

as if that describes one's culture. More than half of the world's population could be categorized

1:27.6

as quote unquote Asian, even if you exclude Northwest Asia, if you just include South and East Asia,

1:35.0

I think that's probably like 60% of the world population. So you'd be more specific by saying

1:44.1

someone's culture is not Asian, you know, imagine lumping all of Europe and all of North America,

1:51.6

all of South America, all of Africa, all of Australia into one culture. Well, that would be

1:59.7

less egregious than lumping all of South Asia and all of East Asia together. And I was saying,

2:07.2

and there's so many countries, one, and two, in each country, there are so many different cultures.

2:14.3

So to say someone's Asian is ridiculous. And I was listing a bunch of countries and I didn't

2:23.4

mention Malaysia. I think that's what was happening. And Omar in the comment section on YouTube was

2:30.5

just like, oh, you missed Malaysia. And I think I've already talked about this at some point like

2:38.0

during a comments video, I might have addressed that. But no, Omar, I did not take that as criticism.
