Summary

This monthly series features an episode sharing my recent highs and lows, how my habits are going, a Do Something List update, plus what I'm loving lately and my commitments for the upcoming month. I hope this glimpse into my life, my family, my work, and my own self development encourages you in your own journey. Around here the goal is never perfection, just to keep trying, even if in very simple ways. I think you'll see that with all of the big changes going on for me, taking the smallest of steps has helped to keep me afloat and feeling like myself. Hi, this is Monica Packer from About Progress and you're listening to The Messy Middle,

0:09.7

a monthly series where I share some of my own messy middle so you can see what progress

0:13.9

looks like for a real woman in real time. I always kick off this episode with the what's Happening segment where I share about what's

0:22.9

been going on in the Packer household. Because it is now June and May is over, it was everything

0:29.1

May, which meant it was crazy, so crazy, jam-packed in large part due to the end of sports seasons

0:36.9

and school events and the play

0:38.9

that we are now in, all on top of something major that happened in our house and major things

0:45.9

going on with the book. And gosh, it was just a big, messy month. And today I'm recording this

0:51.8

on June 1st and I'm feeling it and I'm realizing I probably need

0:55.2

to just carve off a morning or afternoon where we can all just rest right now four out of five

1:01.2

my kids are done with school I've got one left in school till Thursday so just a couple more days

1:06.0

and we are about to really dive straight into summer. And I am still getting that clarity. I told

1:13.2

you last month I'm going to get clarity with my kids about how they want the summer to look. We've had a few

1:16.5

conversations here and there, but I'm hoping tonight over dinner to really nail down, okay,

1:22.7

what's our bucket list for the summer? How do we want to feel this summer? And also let's talk about here are our

1:28.4

rules for the summer. Here's how we're going to have our morning routine. Here's how I hope we can

1:32.2

run our days and kind of just sketch that out more. And then I'm sure tomorrow I'll start working

1:37.2

on like our morning routine chore chart and stuff like that to just kind of ensure we're starting

1:41.6

the summer off better than we did last year. The beginning of

1:44.3

summer was tough last year, but we eventually found our groove. And I am really glad that I didn't

1:50.4

give up. And this year, I'm trying to learn from my mistakes and have a few things more in order,

1:56.3

including the way I'm thinking about the summer and shifting my own habits to match accordingly.
