Summary

This is my second year of having my garden, and I've been struggling with this morning glory infestation that I thought I had under control at the end of last year. It's like no matter what I do, it just keeps coming back. It's a constant battle, and it's got me thinking about how similar it is to our struggle with self-care. Sometimes, we neglect our own needs, thinking we can push through. But just like the morning glory, those neglected needs can eventually overwhelm us. It's a reminder that self-care isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. Even small steps, like taking a few minutes for yourself each day, can make a big difference. I don't know if you heard or not, but I am a gardener now.

0:21.0

And that's a little joke because I feel like I talk about it all the time

0:25.0

it's like the people who run marathons like how do you know someone's run a marathon or they're

0:30.0

training for a marathon or they're like run marathons, they'll tell you. I feel the same way about gardening.

0:37.0

I just can't help with though. There are so many life lessons in gardening. And this is only my second year,

0:43.4

so I'm sure I have so much more to learn

0:45.1

not just about gardening, but of life.

0:48.3

But something happened recently

0:50.4

while I was wandering my garden that made me realize something much deeper at play that I had to tell you about.

Now I just want you to picture my backyard is like the shape of a baseball diamond with the smallest side like home base

1:04.8

being closest to our home and then it fans out the outfilled the further out you move

1:10.0

away from our home and so that means we have a top half of our yard and then a

1:14.7

bottom half and the bottom half is something we worked on last year and we're

1:19.2

able to build an area of 16 garden beds and then a little bit of other surrounding areas like a little play area and a little basketball court like a very small little concrete pad for our kids to play basketball.

1:34.0

And I have loved this garden.

1:36.0

It has been so fun for me, but there's a little bit of a tricky part

1:41.0

because between the little basketball court and the

1:46.7

garden there's this small kind of field and by the end of our first year last year with the garden I noticed some morning glory

1:56.7

creeping up in that field and Brad and I lay down a ton of bark in this area

2:02.4

hoping it will kind of smother the weeds that were coming up a lot.

2:06.5

And we did that in the fall.
