In 2015, my now husband and I were privileged enough to buy our first home.

It was a little bungalow built in the 1910s.

We quickly made friends with neighbors who told us that the previous owner had been a World War II

vet who had passed away several years prior when he was in his 90s. His name was Sy, but everyone called him Cy for short by all accounts he was a bit of a

curmudgeon on the outside but once you got to know him he would be revealed as a big softy we also learned

that Cy had passed away in the living room of the house on the couch.

He was found several hours later, so it wasn't anything gory, just a bittersweet way to go.

Now I always felt guilty that two idiots like myself and my boyfriend had bought a house where a man
