If you would turn with me to Matthew chapter 20.

While you're turning to Matthew chapter 20, we're about to read Jesus, his description of what he's planning on doing, where he's going, what he's doing.

And what's amazing is he's shockingly clear about what's about to happen to him.

I say shockingly in the sense that when you follow the narrative of Jesus going to Jerusalem

and the crucifixion and the most important parts of our Christian faith, all those things

are going to happen in Jerusalem. And the disciples the whole time seem to be sort of lost.

Like what's happening? What's going on around us why are we here and what what's going on

and and and jesus it what's amazing is he told them what was going to happen um almost as good as

clockwork jesus explained it and that's one of the things i want to show you here um about

his plan to go to jerusalem and what he's planning to do it but there's a verse before we get into our text here that I want to remind you of.

It's Hebrews 12, too, where it says that we are looking unto Jesus, who's the author

and the finisher of our faith, who, now notice this, who for the joy that was set before

him endured the cross, despising the the shame and is set down at the right

hand of the throne of God.

Jesus endured the cross.

What was one of the motivations that made him do such a thing?

And we're going to get into the cross and how, what an amazing decision that was that

Jesus made to go to the cross to how, what an amazing decision that was that Jesus made

to go to the cross to save the world from its sinful condition. But it was the joy that was

set before him. And it makes me wonder, when he was thinking about this, I know that he had the

cup of suffering that he prayed about there in the garden of gisemone they even call it agony

there in the garden which i understand that but i also sense that that there was a part of jesus
