Summary

Remember Anthony Davis, the guy who was arguably the NBA's best player in last season's playoffs? That was the guy who showed up Sunday at Staples Center as the Lakers thumped the Phoenix Suns, 123-110. 42 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals, three blocks. That, folks, is a full line. And it came on the heels of a nearly-as-impressive performance against Portland Friday, in what was overall an encouraging weekend for the Lakers. We talk AD and what a potential first round matchup against the Suns might look like. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Why this weekend should give Lakers fans some optimism. Beyond AD's performance (though that's a big part of it) the Lakers came out and played two good games against good teams under difficult circumstances. Yes, they lost in Portland, but the Blazers have played well and needed some nuclear shooting from Dame Lillard to win. Meanwhile, the Lakers had one point guard. Playing with two PGs Sunday, LA laid the wood on an excellent Phoenix team. The Lakers play hard, play defense, and while they won't enter the postseason under optimal circumstances, won't fold up or combust. SEGMENT 2: What changed for Davis, who dominated both sides of the ball this weekend? Does he owe us money? SEGMENT 3: Not to be prisoners of the moment, but Sunday's game certainly indicated how the Lakers could be a significant matchup problem for the Suns. Defensively, they can throw some bodies (Bridges, Crowder) at LeBron, but don't have an answer for Davis. And where can they leverage their advantages on the other end? lots to get into after the Lakers have, you know, they split Andy over the weekend, but

0:22.0

I thought it was a really encouraging two games of basketball. Lakers lose in Portland,

0:27.7

but they win on Sunday night against the Suns at Staples Center 123 to 110 was the final

0:33.6

score there. A lot of good stuff. I think if you're a Lakers fan, particularly with Anthony

0:38.6

Davis, he's going to be the subject really of our second segment in depth because Andy,

0:44.4

Anthony Davis may have heard some of the chatter about how he's soft and not so good

0:51.8

or whatever might be. And I don't think you liked it based on based on what he did this

weekend. I don't care what the hell prompted it. I'm just glad it did. I couldn't care less,

1:02.8

like, you know, the psychology might be kind of interesting, but ultimately the dude went out

1:06.8

there and looked like Anthony Davis. The why doesn't matter to me. Fair point. And then in our

1:12.2

third segment, we'll take a look at the Lakers versus the Suns as a potential playoff matchup

1:18.2

because obviously with the Lakers at the Seven Seed right now or at least sitting there with

the play and then all that. And Phoenix at the two, that is looking very much like a possibility.

So let's look at Phoenix on Sunday and he won 23 to 110. Lakers get off to a huge start in the first

1:49.8

quarter. They outscore the Suns 30 to 19. The thing that impressed me the most about this was that

1:55.7

like the entire time I was sort of waiting for the Suns to make that run and get close and close

2:03.4

that gap. And it never happened both because the Lakers played their customary good defense.

2:09.4

But also because they scored. And that was the nice change of pace.
