In medieval Europe, artists depicted angels as radiant adults with wings. But as time passed

and we entered into the Renaissance, artists were heavily influenced by Greco-Roman art and began to

lean on depictions of Cupid to represent angels. Cupid, of course, being the chubby winged child

we see every Valentine's Day. The Renaissance artist took

those sweet baby angels and gave them the name cherub, cherub, cherub being a singular of the biblical

word cherubim. However, as we will discover in today's Bible story, the cherubim of the Bible

are anything but cute, mischievous, or childlike as in the case of Cupid.

They are ferocious, terrifying protectors.
