Summary

#385. FALKEN, our newly refit Farr 65, is finally sailing. August Sandberg hosts a 59 North 'Admiralty' roundtable, recapping the first sea trial on the new boat, which we did last week here in the English Channel. With gusts up to 55 knots, hail squalls, sunshine, big waves, fast reaching and breaking the things that 'needed' to break, the sea trial was a massive success and a hell of a lot of fun sailing with 9 of our friends and 59 North sailing staff! Andy, Nikki & Mia were all onboard and relive the sea trial on today's episode, the first of 2023!

Eagles fan. I come from Reading, Pennsylvania. Yesterday, the Eagles beat the 49ers and are going to

the Super Bowl. I am saying it's good luck because the lasters and are going to the Super Bowl. I am saying

0:22.7

it's good luck because the last time the Eagles were in the Super Bowl and won, I was in England.

This time I'm also in England and going to be here for the Super Bowl. So those of you that are

0:31.4

Eagles fans, hopefully that's my good luck charm. So we'll see how it goes. It's going to be a

0:36.1

late night for me on February

0:38.2

12th when the Eagles game here in England starts at 11 p.m. But you know I'm going to be watching it.

Okay, on to 59 North News. We are very excited to start a new season. We have new sponsors for this

0:49.8

season. We have a lot of new episodes coming up. And we thought it only appropriate to start off the season with the Admiralty.

Me, Mia, August, and Nikki sat down to talk about the Falcon Sea Trial and basically kind of summarize the whole Falcon refit project in the first couple of minutes altogether, because August hasn't really been here for a lot of it. He missed the sea trial

back in Norway where he was getting East Bjorn ready to sail on her first passage of the year.

1:16.7

In fact, as we speak, they are at the up-Helly-Awe festival in Shetland. So things are happening. Despite

1:22.2

it being winter in the Northern Hemisphere, our season is well underway with East Bjorn

1:27.3

at sea and Falcon headed

1:29.2

to see in two weeks with her first crew on the new boat. So very, very excited. Nicky has been

1:35.3

working very hard on the quarterdeck. We've got a lot of new things coming there. The

1:38.6

Quarterdeck podcast launched again last week. So you'll be hearing quite a bit from us,

1:42.7

those of you that listen to both podcasts. And I'm very excited about what is to come in 2023. Also, we have talked quite a bit about

1:50.0

our women's initiative where we are saving two bunks on every passage for women. And basically,

1:54.7

because of some crew changes we've had coming up in the beginning of the season, we have one
