In January, University of California philosophy

professor Andy Lemy wrote an article for Colette whose title,

the Libertarian case for rejecting meat consumption,

might seem to be a contradiction in terms.

Libertarianism, after all, is commonly classified as a sub-branch of conservatism, and conservatives,

by cultural stereotype at least, are supposed to disdain vegetarianism.

But Lamey, who himself as a vegetarian, argues that this area of ethics is now somewhat

fluid.

He also approvingly profiles Michael Humor, a distinguished University of California academic, who has authored what Lamey believes

to be the first book-length case against meat written by a Libertarian, a book called

Dialogues on Ethical Vegetarianism.
