What was that experience like for you as his daughter and, you know, a younger child writing a memoir about a father or a parent

with dementia. Did you have any preconceived notions about what dementia was prior to his

diagnosis or did you ever think you'd be writing a memoir about your father to begin with?

No. I think that, you know, my dad's dementia diagnosis caught my whole family off guard in a very

big way.

My father was always very highly intelligent and, I mean, almost brilliant.

And so to have, you know, him diagnosed with something that was going to affect his

mental capabilities was pretty devastating. The only experience I'd really had with dementia

or Alzheimer's was my grandmother had had it, his mother. And she had only passed away,

I want to say two years before my dad's diagnosis.
