My guest, documentary filmmaker Andrea Nevins, has got an interesting new film,

First Feature Film as a director.

The documentary I saw at South by Southwest, The Other F-word,

which is what I think of as being the new revolution in punk, punk dads.

Where did it come from?

It came from a book called Punk Rock Dad that Jim Lindberg, the lead singer of Pennywise,

had written, and an old long-lost friend of his, got wind of it, read it, thought it was very funny,

gave it to me, and then introduced me to Jimmy, and I thought, you know what, I've been kind

of navel-gazing,

or as my navel was getting bigger and bigger and small and having three children.

And I thought it was a very interesting way for me to look at what it means to become a parent,

what it means to kind of take on a second coming of age, which is not leaving your parents

and losing responsibilities, or like having

your own responsibilities, but really taking on the full-blown responsibility of taking care of

others, but from a very extreme point of view.

What I'm so fascinated by in the film is just seeing all these tattooed, dyed dads brought

down by their daughters. Jim has three daughters,

a fat Mike from No FX has a daughter. And to see this guy with these stripes in his head and

all these tats go stumbling into his daughter's bedroom, which is an explosion of pink. You must have

loved that alone. You almost cast these guys with these little girls who completely owned them.
