I will say, Cumber, I remembered the sort of gist of the plot,

but I kept thinking, gosh, I wonder what the mirror element was.

Me too.

I kept on waiting for the mirrors to come in.

It's so true.

I remembered the way in to this story really well because it's memorable and it's excellent, which we'll get to very

shortly, but then very little else and my experience of this novel upon

re-reading for the podcast was a bit different from my memory of it in ages past whenever I read it a couple of decades ago.

So we will talk a whole lot about all of those things.

First, let's talk a little bit about the publication history.

A condensed version was published in the U.S. in Cosmopolitan in April of 1952 under the title Murder with Mears, slightly thereafter, same year.

It was published in the US again by Dodd-Meed.
