You join us this week at the BBC Food and Farming Awards now in its 25th year, and we've come

home to the city where the food program is based, Bristol. Before we get on to the award celebration, the shortlists and the winners,

we thought we'd take a moment to reflect on where we are

and the city's rich food culture, past and present.

People travel to this city to eat.

They live here because it's a great place to eat well,

and you only have to stroll across the street

from where the awards are being held to understand what that means.

Well, I'm at the docks in the centre of Bristol,

and for centuries this has been the place where this seafaring city made its riches,

trading sugar, olive oil, spices, cocoa, rum, wine and much more.

Though the wealth here was also driven by slavery, a fact that was brought dramatically to
