Hi there, everybody. It's 4 o'clock in New York. The crime of assaulting law enforcement

officials is a serious one. We all agree. Well, if you're Donald Trump, it depends on who

is being accused of doing the assaulting of law enforcement.

Nearly 1,600, January 6th, insurrectionists received pardons.

At least 172 of them pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers.

But today, that crime of assaulting law enforcement is once again deemed serious enough

by Donald Trump to charge.

A Democratic Congresswoman who was exercising her right to inspect an ice facility

was charged with assaulting ICE officers during a protest at that facility.

The indictment of a member of the Democratic Party, the opposing political party,

is an unmistakable and undeniable escalation in Donald Trump's political

intimidation or political retribution efforts against critics, especially Democratic elected

officials. In a statement last night, the interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, the former

Trump attorney, Alina Haba, announced criminal charges for Democratic Congresswoman

La Monica McIber. She faces two counts of assaulting, resisting, and impeding law enforcement

officers for a scuffle that took place outside an ICE detention center in Newark. There's a video

of it. You can see that scuffle here in the video. Three New Jersey

Democratic members of Congress were met with resistance from ICE officers. Those ICE officers resisted

their request to enter. They actually demanded a tour of the facility. It's their right to do that.

In the ensuing chaos, law enforcement arrested the mayor of Neuer, Ross Paraca,

while the members of Congress were eventually let inside, as we said,

because they have a right to do what they wanted to do, conduct oversight unannounced of that site.
