Ralph Marler-Grag, born June 17, 1917, was in the year 1951, a 34-year-old unemployed sawmill worker, who, injured the year before, could no longer work and supported his family with his compensation.

Residing with his wife and children in Colitzville, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains,

Ruth Storygrag, desperate to escape her husband's extreme physical abuse,

left everyone and everything behind and fled from her marriage.

When she did, Ralph told her that he was going to kill their eight children.

Whether or not she believed him or thought this was a scare tactic to get her to come back home is unknown.

But what we are sure of is that on May 2nd, 1951, the Gregg residents, quote, lit up all of a sudden with a large flash.
