Summary
This special Spotlight episode ahead of U.S. Open week is dedicated to Lee Trevino. This is Part 1 of what will likely, hopefully be a two-part Spotlight. It begins with the nuts and bolts of Trevino’s resume and career accomplishments before launching into his background and upbringing in poor conditions outside of Dallas. It covers his trademark swing, how he got into the game from destitute circumstances, his time in the Marines, and his path onto Tour golf. That path is due in part to qualifying for and then succeeding at the U.S. Open his first few times around the national championship. This episode covers his first three major wins, the U.S. Open at Oak Hill, the U.S. Open at Merion in a playoff against Jack Nicklaus, and his first Open Championship at Birkdale. It also covers the origins of his antipathy towards the Masters, and many more side tales. Thanks to the U.S. Open Victory Club (join that here) for supporting this Spotlight work and making these episodes possible.

| 0:57.0 | It's a reminder of last year this time when we were just cranking them out at a ridiculous pace, because there was nothing else to do. |
| 1:06.0 | I don't know why or how we did that at that pace. |
| 1:11.0 | The one where we did like four, four in a row, like four episodes a row, four and like an eight day stretch and boggles my mind. |
| 1:23.0 | Ernie L's. Yeah, but we're back. This is a monster one, too. We are doing the spotlight on Lietra Vino. It will be two parts. There's no way we could probably, we could do it at one part, it would just be, you know, four hour episode or something like that. |
| 1:37.0 | We will obviously miss things. Torino is a titan of the game. Story is kind of completely unique. Probably won't get every detail right, won't get every detail included, but we made an honest effort of it. |
| 1:52.0 | We'll miss some details. We'll probably meander on other details longer than we need to. Sure, sure. |
| 2:00.0 | This is the way of the spotlight. If you haven't been with us for a player spotlight, please, please explore our back catalog. They are, they're labors of love. |
| 2:10.0 | We learned so much. They're so fun. And they require quite a bit of work. You know, I've been on the road and I get home. |
| 2:19.0 | You know, I've been on the road for a week and a ton of the last month I get home and tell my wife this morning, listen, I cannot be bothered this morning. |
| 2:28.0 | I felt like I was craving for a test here. I felt like I was going back to college completely. You'll prepare craving for a test, but we're here. |
| 2:39.0 | Part what? It's brought to you by that work is made possible underwritten supported by the US Open Victory Club. |
| 2:47.0 | You can join that at usopen.com slash victory club. They have supported several of these spotlights. We did one before the women's open on birdie Kim. |
| 2:56.0 | Or more generally on the 2005 US women's open. This one's on Lee Trevino, a two-time winner of the US Open, a qualifier who made his way through qualifying did not win the year he qualified, but kind of his origin story is that the US Open, right? |
| 3:12.0 | It's kind of like through the US Open, which is, you know, the most absurd thing to think about like your career. |
| 3:19.0 | Basically just just these papal born through the US Open. |
| 3:24.0 | So join the victory club makes the corn fairy to our thing just absolutely more ridiculous. |
