I'm Emanuel Vaughn Lee, executive editor of Emergence Magazine,

located on the unseated ancestral lands of the Coast Meawak people of present-day Marin County.

Each week we feature a new interview, narrated essay, or story, exploring the threads connecting

ecology, culture, and spirituality.

There is a primordial love that exists between the Earth and humans, an ancient covenant

of reciprocal care that has been there since time and memorial.

But along the way, we, in our hubris, have covered over this relationship with images of ourselves,

spinning a story that casts us as the center of the cosmos.

As the fallout of this narrative culminates in the unprecedented transformation

of our outer landscapes and a growing ecological wasteland,

our inner landscapes also stir with change.

In November, I gave a talk at St. Ethelberger Center for Reconciliation and Peace in London

about this interchange, a change that is unfolding within the shifting landscapes that surround us.

I spoke about the inner transformation I feel as possible amid these shifting landscapes,

and the need to step away from a human-centric paradigm,

and towards remembrance of the earth as an alive, divine being,

asking what can we offer her?

How can we orient ourselves in relationship with her?

And what opens when love once again becomes present between us.

This evening I want to speak about shifting landscapes.
