In this 5 MINUTE FRIDAYS video, Jonathan Green briefly speaks about his transformation from being an introvert. Many people who deal with this may feel like it's just who they are. Though this may be true it may be worth it to ask yourself, "What am I hiding?" or "What am I hiding from?".

Typically, there are many valuable qualities that someone who's thought of as an introvert can share.

I'm Jonathan Green and my good friend David asked me to kickstart five-minute Fridays

0:07.1

and share the intro of my journey in transforming from being an introvert.

0:12.9

And you know, I'll never forget it. 1997, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia,

0:17.7

a college grad, dual degrees, mathematics, computer science, and I was working as a computer

0:24.0

specialist making about $28,000 a year. And I was that guy that I worked, but you know what,

0:30.8

I was always just content. But if I had questions, I really didn't want to ask them because I didn't

0:37.6

want to bother people. And sure enough, one night, I found a printout of everybody's salary on

0:47.9

the printer. And I saw that I was making $28,000 a year and there was no one else making

0:53.5

under $45,000 a year. I remember how that felt. And this was just the point that I was just frustrated

0:59.6

and I was tired of being where I was. So, so I decided to, I decided that I was going to,

1:06.0

you know, work extremely hard, make myself very noticeable on the job so that I could get a huge

1:10.8

raise. Okay. And when when my review time came, here it was, I sat down with my manager,

1:16.7

got an ex seated expectation. I told her, whatever I got to do to make $40,000 a year,

1:21.2

I was willing to do it. This young lady looked at me and she said, Jonathan, the only way you can

1:26.0

make $40,000 a year is for you to become a supervisor and we don't have any positions open. And I knew

1:31.6

that none of the other people were supervisors, but I'd already seen their pay. And so at that

1:38.4

point, I realized that I had a whole lot of work to do on myself. And so, you know, when I,

1:44.0

when I assessed myself, I realized that I was just a person that was afraid of rejection,

1:48.9

you know, because I had to die sick while I was shy. I was afraid of rejection. I said, why am I

1:53.3

afraid of rejection? Because I, I put too much value on the opinions of other people. So, I wanted

1:59.4

to put myself in an environment where I didn't have to worry about that. And so, I chose karaoke.

2:04.6

I don't know why, but you know what? I knew that I had a fear of it because of what people thought.
