West of Memphis is a documentary about the failure of justice in the case against the West Memphis 3,

a case in which three teenagers, Jesse Miss Kelly, Damien Eccles, and Jason Baldwin,

were arrested for the murders of three eight-year-old children,

Christopher Byers, Stephen Branch, and Michael Moore.

After the screening, Elvis moderated a conversation

with writer-director Amy Berg,

who's best known for her Oscar-nominated

documentary, Deliver Us from Evil, plus subjects of the film, Damien Eccles and Lori Davis,

who also served as co-producers. West of Memphis was recently nominated for a BAFTA Award

for Best Documentary.

What was it like the first time you guys saw the movie, if I may ask you that?

For me, it was something I, when we sat down to watch it for the first time,

I'd only been out of prison for about a month, and we were in New Zealand.

And whenever they said it was time to watch the very first initial rough cut,

it was still about three hours long at that point. And we went in to watch it and I was thinking,

God, I don't want to do this. I don't want to have to relive this again, just watch it over and over. But then when we sat down and actually started watching it,

it held my attention all the way from beginning to end.

And that's when I knew that Amy had done something amazing

when it could hold my attention and I'd already lived the world.

And for you, Laurie, so what was it like for you seeing it for the first time?
