life and culture. My name is Freddie Gray.

I'm the deputy editor of The Spectator.

I am delighted to be joined by James Pogue,

who is a writer for Harper's magazine,

but he's just written a piece in Vanity Fair,

which is titled Inside the New Right,

where Peter Thiel is placing his biggest bets.

And it's a very, very interesting piece that has been a bit of a smash hit, I think it's fair to say.

And it's, I think possibly my theory is to the reason why it's been gone down so well,

is that you look in an open-minded way, James, at a phenomenon that a lot of people normally just either scream at or embrace a bit too eagerly.

So I think it's a great piece of journalism and well done.

And I think for our British listeners, mostly British listeners to this podcast, we believe, we would like you to sort of start by explaining what is

the new right as you understand it. Well, thank you for that really nice introduction. And I wish

that I could explain the new right in less than 9,000 words, which I tried to do in the piece.

The easiest way for people who have never heard of it at all

is to understand it as kind of two separate converging trends.

And I think one of those trends is more visible,
