Today on the program, just one story about a kid named Sam.

That Monday after graduation, I woke up and I looked in the mirror and I was like whoa what do I do now?

He's a great student at an Indiana high school he's won awards as a promising

jazz musician and a charming guy.

But when he tried to fill out his college applications,

he found that no school would accept him.

His parents arrived in the US when Sam was a baby.

They overstayed their visas, and now they're here illegally, which means

despite all his hard work, Sam may be on a dead-end road.

This half hour on Unfictional, it's American Dreamer, Sam's Story.

This documentary was the winner of the Impact Award

at the 2010 Third Coast Richard Dreehouse Foundation

competition.

Producers Dan Collison and Elizabeth Meister met Sam in his last few weeks at an

Indiana high school and followed his story as he pursued his dreams of studying music

I've had Bertha three three and a half years and she's old and seen some action but

she's amazing pretty much girlfriend takes first place though. My name is Sam. I'm 18. I'm a senior here at Central and I'm in the band and stuff and jazz band and I was a drum major this year and the past four years have been great and I'm finally

ready to graduate and get out of here.
