You have to take care of your physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual life.

When somebody starves to death, what happens when you run out of food?

The body eats itself.

And I was dying, literally physically dying.

And had I not done therapy, I would have died at age 44.

This story for this episode actually started about six months ago, and we were doing a retreat

somewhere in America, and the pastor's wife of the church that we were visiting said,

you've got to read this book and meet this person named Marilyn Murray.

She wrote the book, The Murray Method,

and it's changed my life. It's changed how I approached ministry. It's absolutely helped me

with so much of the baggage I've been carrying. So, of course, on a new lead, I buy a book,

and I'm totally surprised by the depth, the insight, and actually from the very first

chapter blown away by the story she tells about herself.

And I think what's really unique about her story is that she experienced sexual trauma like

many people, but she actually started talking about this sexual trauma

when it was absolutely taboo to talk about it. Not just in the church, but it was taboo to talk about

it at all in America. This is because she's 86. 87 years old. And so she was the first person

to start talking publicly in America about abuse and hundreds of people would gather and travel to hear her talk about abuse, her story, but also her story of healing, not just healing psychologically, but healing physically.

She says at some point in this episode that had it not been for going through this healing process

of therapy and camaraderie from her community around her, that she would have died at 44 years old.
