For a 17-year-old young black lady,

a 17-year-old young black lady, mother of a six month old child,

walking into the Galleria to do her shift

at a retail store called Lids, L-I-D-S.

I don't know if they still do this, but young folks,

particularly young inner city folks would refer to caps as lids. I think when people like me

started trying to use it sort of like bling and any number of other things.

They probably moved on, but that was the name of the store.

There are an inner city culture today. There are certain things that take on a different

value. some special feature. You can't fly with them. They don't have a propeller that

drops out and you know you can scoot across the water like a spinner being

thrown by cast by Bill Dance. No, it's just that particular pair.

Kids get murdered over them. You get the new pair of the bronze. lucky you because you're the one going to get stabbed coming out of and it's been a lot of those cases a lot

Well the flat-brimmed hats, that's also a big deal. She was a 17-year-old girl. So this is the demographic.

Young, pretty girl, she's clearly pretty. A young pretty girl working She's clearly pretty.

A young pretty girl working at this store, obviously, when you're going to work, you're not even

18 years old.

Probably a pretty good gig.
