One other thing on the Houston Police Department issue and really it's not a

HPD issue. It's a leadership issue and it's a crime in the community issue.

Because what really matters people don't really care about HPD or HFD or City Hall they want to be able to live

their lives in peace, safety, security.

These are basic, reasonable things.

To think how far we've gone backward.

Things that Houston was famous for.

We can't control the heat.

But we were a safe big city and then we became enamored.

Don't call us backwater hicks. Don't call us racist. Don't make us seem like we're

from Alabama or Arkansas from Mississippi because they're bad people.

We want a show in Houston.

And I watched people puff their chest up.

And we're not like those places.

We're not a southern city. We're not like those places. We're not a southern city. We're the New South. We're different. We're liberal.

This is happening in Nashville right now. Nashville is a few years behind us, it's also happening then. So what was once a very

safe lovely place to live.

Became so enamored.

And I'll tell you, I give you some examples of where it happened. A turning point was in the 1980s Kathy Whitmire put together a

coalition and the coalition was gays, blacks, Ben Reyes, Hispanics, so that the real La Rasa,

Hispanics, real angry activists, but Chicano, they're not first generation, Hispanics, and

white liberals.
