Benigens is an Irish pub-themed American casual dining restaurant chain.

It was established in 1976 in Atlanta, Georgia as part of the Pillsbury Corporation.

The concept was the brainchild of company vice president and Steak and Ail founder Norman Brinker.

By the early 1980s, Binnigan's had become one of the best known

fern bars in the United States. Wait, you've never heard of a fern bar?

Well, I hadn't either, but I saw it in Wikipedia, so now I had to look it up and tell you exactly what

a fern bar was a slang term for an upscale preppy bar or tavern catering to singles, usually

decorated with ferns or other greenery as well as such decor as fake

Tiffany lamps.

That was Benigans.

They were gathering places for well-dressed, upscale young men and women initially during the sexual revolution of the 1970s and later the yuppy era of the 1980s.

There were whispers that singles went to these Fern Bars to meet up with other singles so they could hook up and

you know you know what they did in reality binagans was just a place where people went after

work to unwind with friends, eat and enjoy themselves

an adult beverage.

At least they did up until 2008.

That's when Bennegan's declared bankruptcy and all but a handful of their restaurants closed.

On July 23rd, 1992, a young fellow by the name of James Lee Mud

squired about an even younger Dusty Davis for the first of many dates. His rugged handsomness and the

turkey tool that he acquired for her that evening made her eyes turn to hearts.
