Hello and welcome to the 538 Politics Podcast. I'm Gailan Druke. A lot happened while I was out

last week. This seems to be a trend for some reason. Senators Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer announced

that they reached an agreement on a climate tax and health care bill, an outcome that seemed

unlikely just weeks prior. Congress passed the CHIP's act adding to its now sizeable list of

successful bipartisan legislation. Also, a debate broke out over whether the United States is currently

in a recession. After a second quarter annualized GDP numbers showed a 0.9% contraction. That marks

two consecutive quarters of contraction, a common definition for recession. In addition to that,

the Washington Post reported for the first time that former President Trump's actions are part of

the Department of Justice's January 6th Criminal Investigation and former Democratic presidential

candidate Andrew Yang joined forces with two central groups to relaunch a third party that he started

last year, the forward party. Usually, we focus on just a couple topics on Mondays. Today, we're

going to do things a little differently and try to do a roundup of everything that happened last week.
