Okay my name is Laura Derek and I do a lot of different things. I don't know. I'm not sure

exactly how to answer that.

I first meet Laura Derek in a park in Austin, Texas.

It's a place where she used to take her kids when they were little.

My name is Laura Derek, and I live in Austin, Texas. There we go. That was beautiful. All right, cool. And so we are talking because I said to the universe by Facebook, like, I'm interested in people with stories about health care and money and I think your daughter basically said like my mom has a whale of a story.

Yes, this is true. I was born with a hereditary illness, which I didn't know at the time.

And Laura Derek proceeds to blow my mind for the next two and a half hours. We're condensing it the 20 minutes here.

She is someone who really confronted the cost of health care over and over.

And she prevailed.
