Alyssa Walker about sustainability, the power of journalism, and what it's like to live in Los Angeles without driving.

What an amazing gift to not have to do it. It just freed up the city for me in a way that nothing else that I've ever done has

changed my life so dramatically and let allowed me to have so much fun and see so many

things I haven't seen. Here's Debbie Millman. Here in New York City, even if you own a car, most of the

time you are a pedestrian. In Los Angeles, there are only drivers, or at least that's the stereotype.

Design writer Alyssa Walker is out to remake that image and actually change her car-loving

fellow Angelinos.

Her last name describes her mission. She is an inveterate and determined walker in a city

that spreads out over vast distances. She's also a biker and a taker of public transportation.

She's into food, sustainability, and gelato,

all of which comes through loud and clear
