I'm the host Scott Feinberg and my guest today is a dashing young actor who has had a

rabid following in America for the better part of the last decade, but who has found new measures of

respect this spring for his haunting work in the massively acclaimed HBO

limited series Big Little Lies, Alexander Scarsgard.

The 40-year-old Swede first burst onto the scene in 2008 when HBO unveiled two high-profile

projects that showcased his talents.

The first was the seven-part miniiseries generation kill in which he played

an extraordinary U.S. Marine during the early days of the war in Iraq.

And the second was the drama series True Blood, in which he played a thousand-year-old vampire named

Eric Northman opposite Anna Pacwin and Stephen Moyer.

Generation Kill won extensive acclaim and received 11 Emmy nominations while True Blood became

HBO's biggest hit since the Sopranos running for seven seasons until 2014.

Over the intervening years Scarsgarde has popped up in a wide array of projects.

From Lady Gaga's 2009 music video for the song Paparazzi, to acclaimed indies like Lars

Von Trir's Melanchalia in 2011 and Mariel Heller's The Diary of a Teenage

Girl in 2015, to big studio action films like 2012's Battleship and 2016's The Legend of Tarzan.
