Hello everyone, Tom Clarkson here with your latest fix of Beyond the Grid,

My guess this week is one of the busiest and most interesting people in motorsport.

He runs a bunch of different businesses these days, but there was a time when he

existed purely to compete, first on two wheels and then on four.

I'm talking about Austrian racer Alex Spurts.

Two wheels are here you say, yes. Believe it or not, he was a BMX world champion before then

setting sail on a motorsport career that saw him race in Formula One with Bennitton McLaren

and Williams and he scored three podium finishes. So whether it was Dicing with Michael Schumacher

or trying to stay on the right side of Flavio Breitori or dealing with the tribulations of being

one of the tallest drivers on the grid or walking away from the fastest crash in F1 history.

Alex has done all this and more, but it's what he's done post-racing in F1 that's almost

just as interesting, designing tracks, working as an advisor for Williams and heading the

Grand Prix Drivers Association which is currently involved in the 2021 rules discussions.
