Summary

Alex Murdaugh has sued for a new trial in the case against him for the murder of his wife and son in June of 2021, amid reports of jury tampering by the clerk of court in Colleton County Rebecca Hill. Defense Attorney Jim Griffin for Murdaugh joins  Martha to lay out the allegations being levied against the clerk of court Rebecca Hill, and why her actions would be grounds to receive a new trial for the convicted murderer, and discusses the process of appealing the original conviction.   Later, Griffin explains why there would be a need to change the location of a retrial in order to ensure there is an impartial jury, and what Alex and Buster Murdaugh's responses have been to the allegations of jury tampering. You and Dick Harputlian said right away that there would be an appeal.

1:52.4

At that point, what were you planning on basing your appeal on?

2:00.0

On a number of evidentiary rulings that the judge made that we thought and we respectfully disagree with, you know, we went to try a murder case and we

2:04.5

spent at least two weeks trying a financial crimes case. And it's not a financial crimes case that

2:11.6

we were really contesting. The state claimed that that was motive for Alec to kill his wife and son.

2:18.6

And we, we didn't think that's a logical motive.

2:20.9

There's no evidence to link the two in our view.

2:23.4

And we did not think that that financial crime evidence should have come before the jury,
