Summary

In part II of this two part lecture, you will learn some of the practical applications of alchemical philosophy in the preparation of herbal medicines, a practice referred to as "spagyrics."Β

You will learn how the 3 philosophical principles of Sulfur, Mercury and Salt are represented in the plant kingdom, how to extract, purify and recombine them to produce different types of spagyric medicines. These forms of herbal medicines act not only on the physical body through their concentration of the constituents of the plants, but also upon the energetic and spiritual bodies in the way they concentrate the celestial influences of the planets.Β

This lecture is from the 2015 Northwest Herbal Symposium.Β

All right. Well, I hope everyone's been having a really great weekend so far, really enjoying the conference, and I've been having a great time. It just feels nice to be up on the islands and be surrounded by herbalists right what a

0:38.4

blessing to be around like-minded plant-oriented individuals that's always

0:42.9

always feels good so well thank you so much for coming to part two here of the

0:51.0

the alchemy and Spajerix class. How many of you were in the class yesterday?

0:55.0

Pretty much all of you? Okay, great. So we're going to continue. We're going to continue forward

1:01.0

in discussing the, yesterday was really focusing more on underlying alchemical theory, right? That how did the alchemist perceive life,

1:15.1

right? What was their philosophy of nature? And through having that philosophy of nature embedded

1:23.0

into our minds, to me, like the beauty of a lot of what I was discussing yesterday is that it aligns

1:31.7

our mind with the heart. And this is something that I was really struggling with for a really

1:37.5

long time in my work with plants and studying all the traditions I was talking about yesterday as I felt like I had all of this

1:47.0

kind of linear information in my mind, but I was having these experiences through the heart, right?

1:53.0

That direct communion with plants and with nature through the heart.

1:56.0

And oftentimes my mind didn't have a language to understand what I was intuitively receiving

2:03.6

through the plant kingdom. And what I found is that that, one of those principles that I was

2:08.6

talking about yesterday were very beneficial for giving my mind a pattern, a framework, a

2:16.6

blueprint of nature that was able to kind of categorize

2:21.5

and understand on a deeper level what my heart was perceiving. And so I consider alchemy

2:29.1

to be a natural language, right? It's not an artificial language of the human mind imposing

2:37.0

things upon nature, but rather that we receive from nature through the heart and then that

2:42.5

informs our minds to be in more of a natural state. And so, so as I mentioned yesterday,

2:49.4

everything in alchemy is theory and practice.
