I'm delighted to be joined by Alan Dershowitz, who is a very distinguished American lawyer and the author of the extremely timely book, Get Trump, The Threat to Civil Liberties Due Process and Our Constitutional Rule of Law.

And I'm also joined today by Professor Charles Lipson, who is a professor of political science at the University of Chicago.

But let's get started.

Now, Alan, you as the author of Get Trump are well aware of the fact that there has been

seven years, eight years maybe, of attempts to get Trump legally through various different

trials and prosecutions. But it finally

happened yesterday last night. And I think it's fair to say the sort of mood, even among the

people who hate Trump the most, was a bit muted. Is there a sort of widespread feeling that this

case is thin and that even people who hate Donald Trump

accept that it's thin? Well, I was hoping there'd be a strong indictment. I'm not as Trump supporter.

I voted against them and it would vindicate the American legal system and the New York criminal justice

system. But the DA has labored and has produced a mouse, and it's an extremely weak indictment.

The basic theory behind the indictment is that once Trump paid $130,000 in hush money to prevent his family, his wife, his business partners from learning about an alleged adulterous affair, he should immediately

have then made it public in his corporate forms. No one in the history of the world has ever

done that, and yet the district attorney really expected that of him. We've had thousands of

hush payments made, starting with Alexander Hamilton early in our history, and up through current

corporate leaders, nobody in history has ever then disclosed it on a corporate form.

And yet that lies at the center of this frivolous indictment against him.
