automotive research or car recently released a report on the state of automated

driver assist systems autonomous vehicles and connectivity.

It's an especially timely study given the state of the technology and government regulations.

I recently caught up with Alan Amici, the Center for Automotive Research's

President and CEO. We talked about Cars research and what he sees as the biggest challenges

ahead for autonomous technology.

So for the layperson who's not familiar with the differences between in particular automated driver

assist systems and autonomous vehicles, can you kind of talk about what differentiates them and what features make up both of those two categories of technology?

Sure, Molly, that's an interesting topic, I think.

The way to think about Advanced Driver Assist Systems and autonomous vehicles and the way

automakers are thinking about this is one is a continuum and one can lead to another. And so you start out with advanced

driver assist systems and these are features that are starting to show up on

they've been on premium luxury cars for a few years but we were seeing the democratization of these

a doss features in higher volume cars and so as the is the features become more affordable
