our first season explores the hauntings of Alton, Illinois,

one of the most haunted small towns in America. The Mississippi River has always been the lifeblood of Alton.

The town exists because of a man named Colonel Rufus Easton, who decided to use what

would become Alton as a ferry crossing to Missouri. He named the town, planned its streets,

and sold the first land in what would become the busiest River town in Illinois.

Between 1840 and 1860, the Golden Age of Steam boating on the Mississippi brought wealth

and prosperity to the region.

But the river could be cruel. Those who believe they can

control the river found that that was an illusion. The truth was more fearsome and

the people of Alton often found their homes and streets swallowed by the

water and mud in the Mississippi River.
