Now, many of you know, this is a famous chapter, and it's famous really for one word.

Love. It's called the Love chapter.

Like, chapter of love.

Well, the problem is the context of chapter 13 is that the church at Corinth had been missing that which is the greatest of all priorities

and the context in chapter 12 he's talking about speaking in tongues and and all the manifestations

of the holy spirit the word of wisdom word of knowledge faith gifts of healing working of miracles

prophecy and the interpretation

of tongues, and Paul goes into all that stuff. In Chapter 14, he's going to continue talking

about when tongues and the word of prophecy, what it is, how often should it be done, what does

the public use look like? He's going to put bright lines and rules around speaking in tongues and all that stuff

and we'll hit that on wednesday night but sandwiched between chapter 12 and 14 the about the

holy spirit and tongues and all that stuff sandwiched in the middle is chapter 13 the point of all the

things you do speaking in tongues and all this stuff, the preeminent thing

as a church should always be love. And that's what this verse is, this chapter is about. This is

why it's in this section of this book of First Corinthians. The Corinthian church gets a D minus,

D for disgusting, divided, and depraved. We've learned that in

our study. But Paul's going to really kind of set the precedent of what's really important and talk

about love. Now, one of the things we need to know about love is the world has a definition of love.

And then the Bible gives us a definition of love.
