Hours. Today, how the first in the nation's solar mandate is working out so far.

0:23.7

Somewhere around about three years ago, I traveled to California to do a story on the nation's

0:29.1

first solar mandate. I can't believe it's already been about three years. California, though,

0:34.6

was the first state to require all new homes have solar power. And while most people probably

1:37.8

Today's cover story is solar opposites.

1:40.7

California leads the nation and use of sun-driven power with projects like the historic Los Angeles YNCA.

1:49.2

Built in 1928 has a new system of solar panels and solar hot water saving money on energy.

1:57.4

Solar power has come a long way since the first sun-powered telephone call using a solar battery in

2:03.4

Georgia in 1955.

2:13.4

California architect Vitas Motari shows why California is perfectly situated to soak up the sun.

2:19.8

This is carbon canyon and you're looking at another street up here called coal canyon road.

2:25.8

Yet despite the golden state's optimal positioning, climate, and solar innovations,
