I read from the news out West Salt Lake City. Prior to August 2021,

there were approximately 6,000 members of the Afghanistan Attorney General's Office

who helped put together criminal cases against members of the Taliban on charges of murder,

terrorism, assault, and kidnapping. Most of those prosecutors and staff members were trained

by prosecutors from the United States and allied nations, but the Taliban were gained control of

the country with the fall of Kabul in August of 21. More than 3,800 prosecutors and key staff

members in their families were unable to flee the country and are in hiding. I welcome Bill

Rajo, senior fellow of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, because this is a specific

example of the horror that we've known about ever since, which is that the Taliban

is holding hostages for money. Bill, a very good evening to you. This report goes on to say

certain number, about two dozen have been tortured and killed by the Taliban, but the larger number

is not at this point at risk of dying. Why? This is the logic. This group prosecutors for

prosecutors wants to raise $15 million. Bill, to your knowledge, are we paying ransom to the Taliban

to get people out? Who? Who are at risk? Good evening, John. Yes, um, ransom has been paid

to the Taliban to get people at risk. This was happening at the time of the withdrawal.

Often it was happening at the very low levels where the Taliban, to pay Taliban fighters,

or low level commanders to get them class checkpoints to get them out of the country.
