This is CBS I In The World. I'm John Bachelor, Afghanistan, Pakistan, two troubled regions

of Eurasia. In no fashion are they transparent, however, my colleagues, Bill Raggio, of

the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a senior fellow, keeps the long-word journal

with this colleagues. And Haseena Kani, former ambassador from Pakistan to the United States,

now at Hudson Institute, are my guides on these reports that we get now and again frequently

often these days of activities in Pakistan and Afghanistan that indicate no change from

the early days of the conflict. However, the U.S. has changed, NATO has changed, moved

away from this region. And we also have the geopolitical force of climate change weighing

on the people of Pakistan with the vast flooding of these last months, not answered in any

fashion by outside aid. I begin, however, with al-Qaeda, the original al-Qaeda, because

Bill and his colleagues have provided a graphic, a map of Afghanistan. And in that map are

bullet points of the al-Qaeda leaders who are confirmed KIA in these provinces. It adds

up to a vast canvas of al-Qaeda operating almost indifferently towards the U.S. and NATO

throughout Afghanistan, but are particularly in Kunar, Helmen, Pactika, and Ghazni provinces.
