It's the morning after the night before, but there's no hangover for Ben Stokes today

because the Crown Prosecution Service managed to completely screw up the one job they had at Bristol Crown Court.

It's like the damning video footage which showed him and Alex Hales fighting in the street with two other men

who ended up very much the worst for where.

When the not guilty verdict came in yesterday, afternoon, there were gas from amazement up and down the country.

How could a man who was so obviously caught up in such an act of violence be walking free?

The answer lies in the choice of the charge and a mangled prosecution.

What a ridiculous waste of time and money.

When Ben Stokes walks out onto the cricket pitch at the weekend,

he's going to be welcomed like a conquering hero.

I'm not sure that's the place we want to be in this country, is it?
