Hi, this is against everyone with Connor Abeeb. A weekly podcast featuring my conversations with

countercultural figures and presenting complex, spiritual, philosophical, and political ideas, and an

engaging and fun way. Each week, I pose the questions of what it means to be human in this moment

and what a better world, a more interesting world could

look like. And I do that with some of the most profound thinkers and the people with the most

rebellious projects of our time, artists, intellectuals, philosophers, writers, occultists, and more.

This week, I'm speaking with screenwriter and producer Phil Hay. Phil is part of

the holy trinity of filmmakers, including his wife, Karen Kossama, the director, and his writing

partner, Matt McFreddy. And most notably, they have created the films The Invitation, the horror

movie, and also more recently, Destroyer, starring Nicole Kidman, which came out on Christmas

Day of 2018. Destroyer, since we talk about a lot in the movie, is about a hard-boiled kind of cop in L.A. who had

an undercover job go wrong and as a result has sort of spiraled out of control, affecting the people in her life,

and who is now seeking revenge and justice for that moment that spiraled out of control

or the people that are responsible for it.

It's an amazing movie, and I don't want to give away too much.

You should just go see it.

The invitation is a horror movie, which I summarize in the episode, but basically a couple goes to revisit some old

friends and old relationships at a dinner party. And they find out that some of those old friends

have been involved in a cult, and it starts getting a little crazy from there. They're both

great movies. Phil's also written and collaborated

with the other two on Aeon Flux, the adventure movie based on the Liquid Television animated series
