Summary

I talk with journalist, artist, and activist Una Mullally about how catastrophizing helps keep things on the wrong track, and how to face four challenges of our time - fascism, climate change, AI, and the groomer moral panic - with new ways of thinking/feeling/acting. Friends, this episode features me and Unumaliy talking about how to stop catastrophizing

0:08.5

and start changing ourselves and the world.

0:12.5

Let me take a cue here from philosopher Le Biggenstein first.

0:18.3

He wrote, when we think of the world's future, we always mean the destination it will

0:23.4

reach if it keeps going in the direction we can see it going in now. It does not occur to us

0:29.8

1:43.4

pain and you begin to conceive of it as a terminal disease.

1:47.0

Your partner's phone is binging and binging with texts, and that means definitely they are cheating, lying.

1:54.0

That's the end of the relationship. Or you notice that your social media posts aren't getting likes.

2:00.0

That means no one's interested in what you have to share anymore,

2:03.4

and that's going to affect your livelihood, et cetera, et cetera.

2:06.5

In all of these motions, we create an image of the future,
