DEI professionals, and I take credit, I take accountability myself. We didn't get an established

definition that was like, not so much a law, but like this is what it is. And so what we were

dealing with with every client that we got was, well, we want a benchmark. We want to be, and I'm like,

I hear you, but these strategies really make depend on what your workplace requires, right?

There isn't like one standard.

And I think business people are used to a standard, like what is the worst or best I can be?

And so that made it really hard to understand if they were doing DEI well or not because

most business people don't do well with ambiguity.

If you decide whether it's good or not, which is essentially what we end up have to tell people because there wasn't like a uniform standard.

So without that uniform standard, folks got to come in like co-opt it, weaponize it, demonize it.

And really what we're talking about is fighting over the acronym, not even the words.
