This is a different year when it comes to our presidential political conventions.

Thought we take a step back and look at the history of political conventions a little bit.

How did political conventions get their start here in the U.S.?

They really come out of the bigger story of a durable two-party system forming.

So we start out many founders bashing parties in the early part of the Republic.

We have our first two early parties, the Federalist and the Democratic Republicans.

Those didn't last.

The federalists went away.

The idea was it was the party war to end all parties.
