Associate Professor of Politics and William and Patricia Lamoth chair in the U.S. Constitution

at Hillsdale College. We talked at length with Dr. Carrington about the U.S. Supreme Court,

past cases from this last term, present cases they're considering, and future cases coming up in the next term of the Supreme Court.

If we start with the past and we look back toward the opinions issued from this last term, there's a few to highlight.

We'll start with the Fulton v. City of Philadelphia.

And tell us what was the question in this case.

It had to do with a Catholic adoption agency that had been placing foster and adoptive

children for a very long time in the city of Philadelphia.

And the agency in conformity with its own religious

beliefs refused to license same-sex couples to be foster parents or to be adopted parents

and in 2018 the city prohibited the agency from continuing to do that because of its own

anti-discrimination policy and the question was did that city's prohibition and refusal, the way that worked out,

refusal to give a new contract to the adoptive agency violate the free exercise clause?

The court rules against the city.

It did, yes.
