Welcome to Searchlight, a survey through Scripture with Pastor John Corson.

It is our desire to bring you a systematic study of the entire Bible,

chapter by chapter, book by book.

On our last Searchlight program, we learned that the teachings of Jesus are wonderful, but we need

some help in applying them to our lives.

And we need a picture of how they apply in the church.

That is where the Book of Acts comes in.

It is a picture of the early church and shows us how the teachings of Jesus were applied to the lives of individuals as well as the church.

But it is not a detailed picture. It is only a pattern. Why? Because we need to individually seek God for the details of our life.

We had a bit of an introduction to the book on our last program. As we join

our teaching now, we are going to be starting our verse-by-verse look at Acts chapter 1. With our study,

here now is Pastor John. This man, to whom Luke was writing, Theophilus, the former treatise, have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began, both to do and to teach.

The former treatise, Theophilus, the gospel of Luke, as we call it today, I have written showing you what Jesus began to do and to

teach. You see, the gospels, when we see Jesus giving his teachings and working his healings,

crucified on the cross, resurrected, and then ascending up into heaven.
