By the end of 1989, most metropolitan police agencies, as well as thousands of smaller

precincts, had amassed and distributed to its officers a simple guideline for identifying

Satan worshippers.

The document, usually less than a page long, had bullet points explaining what to look

for if Satanism was suspected.

One particular agency went to step further and produced a video entitled, The Law Enforcement

Guide to Satanic Cults, which thanks to the internet, lives on as a much derided and

can't be attempt to tackle what was considered a very serious threat to the public safety.

But it's what was mentioned in every police agency's one page handout, given to patrolmen,

detectives, teachers and parents that will be focusing on.

It was an item of concern, usually buried somewhere near the bottom of the page, and it was

described as something that all Satanists would have either in their possession or hidden

somewhere safe.

And it was a word that nearly everyone had to look up when they first encountered it.

It was a peculiar item called a Grim War.
